NATALIE MATHES
Natalie is an online media research, strategic communications and public relations professional. She has experience working with clients across academic, nonprofit, legal and policy spaces.
She is also a passionate, lifelong student of history – fascinated by how journalism, media and technology and their influences on culture, civic life, and our relationship to the natural environment have changed over time. She has a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from The George Washington University and a master’s degree in philosophy from the City University of New York Graduate Center.
What do you love most about working in public relations?
Getting to help the incredible people who are bravely taking on the most important challenges we face today. Our clients are so dedicated to their work – it’s really a privilege to learn about their efforts and an honor to help ensure that they’re able to translate and promote those efforts accurately and effectively.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like finding scenic places to read all over the city, going to museums and shows, hanging out in the park, etc.
What’s your favorite quote?
For now I keep returning to this excerpt from an article by Adrienne LaFrance at The Atlantic:
“The passage of time has the capacity to erase human knowledge: Whole languages disappear; explorers lose their feel for crossing the oceans by gazing at the stars. Technology continually reshapes our intellectual capacities. What remains is the fact that we are on this planet to seek knowledge, truth, and beauty—and that we only get so much time to do it.”
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Resist the pressure to form opinions too quickly.
